고신총회, 외국사절답사, 유해무

총회를 방문한 호주개혁교회 W. Huizinga 목사님이 총회에 인사하고, 내가 답사를 하였다.
답사는 우리 총회 역사상 처음이다.
만 6일 넘게 우리집에 계셨고, 좋은 만남을 가졌다.
답사는 먼저 영어로 작성하고 한국어로 번역하여 공식 문서로 남겼다.
답사를 하고 나서 동영상을 보니, 역시 영어가 나에게 외국어라는 것을 절감한다.
조카들은 영어와 다른 외국어를 어릴 때 열심히 하거라.

  We welcome you cordially in our Lord Jesus Christ! You have flown so many hours to be here. We thank you for that and are very happy to have you in our midst.
  Our two churches have a long history together as sister church relations, but the contact between us in the past has not been so frequent. The distance and language barrier made it difficult for us  to communicate with each other. Just as the distance can be bridged by plane, so the language can be overcome by our common tongue, the Word of God. Jesus Christ has completed his work of redemption for us and having received from His Father the promise of the Holy Spirit sent Him, who in His name breaks down this language barrier and unites us as one. It is a great privilege for both of us to see each other face to face. In this way, we can stimulate and challenge each other by imparting some spiritual gift.
  You encourage us to remain faithful, faithful to our reformed faith and heritage, faithful to all what the Lord has given us. Yes, we are blessed with His grace and this tradition. At the same time, we know that it is our great responsibility to keep these upright and to hand them over to the next generations. The former generations of our church fought a good fight even under persecution and imprisonment, and they overcame. That we have them as our predecessors is a sign of our Heavenly Father's faithfulness. Now it is our turn. You speak of our future. When we are faithful, the Lord will keep the future open for us. We will keep your advice heartily and remain faithful.
  There are many temptations within and without. For us in Korea, for you in Australia. But we have a guarantee: our Savior promises us to send His Spirit of wisdom and revelation to illuminate us and to make us discern. We have to be awake and alert in Him, not to yield to temptations and allurements. Please, tell and warn us if there are things to be corrected in accordance with the Scripture or our confession or our reformed tradition, for we are obliged to exchange not only encouragement but also reproof. In this way, we can experience the richness of our blessings in Jesus Christ much deeper.
Though you are a relatively small federation in a big country Australia, your churches are striving to preserve our common Reformed heritage faithfully. When Rev. Jun and I visited your school community John Calvin Christian School last year (2006), we were deeply impressed. We were especially fascinated with the discipline of students who are not only instructed in the normal curriculum, but also in the Bible and the Catechism. We want to learn your consistency in maintaining the Christian education in accordance with the oath given at the infant baptism of your children.
  We are thankful that your churches have prayed for our brothers and sisters who were kidnapped by the Taliban. Our Father answered to your and our prayers and released them. By means of prayer, we feel closely united with one another. We can increase our unity further. It would be nice if the missionaries of our two churches can cooperate in the mission fields. We can talk over the possibility of letting Korean prospective missionaries learn English in your churches. We can also cooperate together in theological education. By enumerating these things, I want to show that we can remain faithful by helping and correcting each other.
  Bring our brotherly greetings to your churches! We are the fewest of all peoples, but are elected by God of covenant, who is faithful and patient in His Son. We hope and pray that He will keep and preserve your churches faithfully till His Son Jesus our Redeemer comes back.
  May God bless you and be gracious to your churches.

친애하는 휘징가 목사님,

  주 예수 그리스도 안에서 진심으로 환영합니다. 목사님께서는 긴 비행 끝에 여기에 도착하셨습니다. 감사하오며, 총회에 참석하심을 심히 기뻐합니다.
  호주자유개혁교회와 우리 교회는 오랜 세월 동안 자매 관계에 있었지만, 지금까지는 별로 접촉이 없었습니다. 거리나 언어 때문에 서로 교류하기가 어려웠습니다. 비행기를 타면 거리는 아무 문제가 되지 않듯, 언어의 장벽도 저희 공용어인 하나님의 말씀으로 극복할 수 있습니다. 그 공용어인 예수 그리스도께서는 우리를 위한 구속 사역을 다 이루시고 성부로부터 성령님의 약속을 받아 보내주셨습니다. 성령님은 예수님의 이름으로 이 장벽을 깨뜨리고 영어와 한국어를 말하는 우리를 한 백성으로 만드십니다. 이제 우리가 직접 만났으니 기쁨이 큽니다. 이렇게 우리는 어떤 신령한 은사를 나누면서 서로 자극하고 도전할 수 있습니다.
  목사님께서는 저희에게 신실하라고, 즉 개혁 신앙과 전통 그리고 주님께서 저희에게 베푸신 모든 것에 대해서 신실하라고 격려하십니다. 그렇습니다. 저희는 이 은혜와 전통의 복을 받았습니다. 동시에 저희는 이것들을 올바르게 간수하고 다음 세대에 전수하는 것이 저희의 사명인 것을 잘 압니다. 저희의 신앙의 선배들은 핍박과 옥중에서도 선한 싸움을 잘 싸우고 승리하였습니다. 저희가 그분들의 후배라는 것은 천부께서 베푸시는 신실성의 증거입니다. 이제는 저희 차례입니다. 목사님께서는 저희의 장래에 대해서 말씀하십니다. 즉 저희가 신실할 때, 주님께서 저희의 장래를 열어주실 것이라고요. 이 조언을 깊이 간직하고 신실하게 살겠습니다.
  우리에게는 안팎으로 유혹이 많습니다. 한국에서 그렇고 호주에서 마찬가지입니다. 그러나 우리에게는 보증이 있으니, 곧 우리 구주께서 지혜의 총명의 성령님을 보내주시사 우리를 비쳐주시고 분별할 수 있게 하시겠다는 약속입니다. 우리가 그분 안에서 경성하고 깨어 있어 유혹과 시험에 빠지지 맙시다. 그러니 성경이나 신조나 개혁 전통에 의거하여 저희가 고쳐야 할 바가 있거든 지적하시고 경고해 주십시오. 우리는 격려뿐만 아니라 책망도 서로 나누어야 할 의무가 있기 때문입니다. 그러면 우리는 예수 그리스도 안에 있는 풍성한 복을 점점 더 깊이 체험할 것입니다.
  귀교회는 큰 나라 호주에서 비교적 작은 교단이지만, 우리 개혁 전통을 신실하게 지키려고 애쓰는 교회입니다. 전 목사와 저는 작년에 여러분이 세운 John Calvin Christian School을 방문하고 깊은 감명을 받았습니다. 특히 학생들이 일반 과목뿐만 아니라 성경과 요리문답을 배워 갖춘 아주 단정한 모습에 놀랬습니다. 유아세례 시에 행한 서약 때문에 기독교교육을 시행하는 일관성을 저희도 배우고 싶습니다.
  귀교회가 탈레반에 피랍된 저희 형제자매들을 위해 한 기도에 감사를 드립니다. 하나님께서 귀교회와 저희의 기도에 응답하시사 그들은 석방되었습니다. 우리는 기도로 깊이 연합하였습니다. 앞으로 우리는 이 연합을 증진시킬 수 있습니다. 우리 양교회의 선교사들이 선교지에서 협력하면 참 좋겠습니다. 귀교회가 저희 선교사 지망생을 받아 영어를 배우게 하는 것도 의논해볼 만합니다. 신학교육에서도 협력할 수 있겠지요. 이런 것을 제안함은 우리가 서로 돕고 바르게 함으로써 신실성을 지킬 수 있다는 것을 말하기 위함입니다.
  귀교회에 저희의 우애어린 인사를 전해주십시오! 비록 우리는 소수이지만, 성자 안에서 신실하시고 오래 참으시는 언약의 하나님의 택자들입니다. 하나님께서 구속주 성자께서 오실 때까지 귀교회를 신실하게 지켜주실 것을 기도드립니다.
하나님의 복과 은혜가 목사님과 호주 교회 위에 임하기를 기원합니다!
